A lighthouse has two jobs. Most of us only do one. Two beams of light, a far and a near one. The far beam scans for what is coming. The near beam shows what is directly in front of you. Business is the same. So is life. Think of the lighthouse framework. Shine far to see what is coming. Shine near to see what matters today. Then realign. Again and again. What’s coming: Next quarter. Next market. Next role. What’s near: Your health. Your team. People who care. Work that actually means something. The rocks you are about to hit while staring far away. For all my time in global corporate business, I focused on ‘what’s next”. I rarely turned the light around. There is an old saying (I can’t find who said it first) that too much time in the past pulls you down, and too much time in the future winds you up. It’s best to be present. Focused on what gives you meaning right now. In martial arts, eyes up means you see the attack coming. Feet planted means you can actually respond. You need both. Lose either one and you are getting up off the floor. After 27 years, I finally turned my own beam around - reflecting, learning, and helping other operators build what matters. Best move I ever made. Most wait too long to turn the light, then wonder why they feel lost in their own life. Turn the beam. Ask what matters today. Realign. Repeat. Eyes up. Feet planted. What are you focused on? Comment below. I read all of them.
